On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the birth of Argentinian composer Astor Piazzolla, the Macao Orchestra (OM, from its Portuguese acronym), under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, will present the concert “The Tango Legends – A Tribute to Piazzolla” on 6 March, at 8pm, at the Dom Pedro V Theatre, as well as various exceptional performances on Saturdays in March, bringing passionate music to every corner of the city.
As several overseas artists programmed to participate in the concert “The Tango Legends – A Tribute to Piazzolla” are unable to travel to Macao due to the pandemic, the programme of the concert will be altered. The Orchestra will present Piazzolla’s famous works Libertango, Oblivion and excerpts of Las Cuatro Estaciones Porteñas, as well as various exuberant pieces such as Goran Bregovic’s Underground Tango and Carlos Gardel’s Por una Cabeza, moving the hearts of all music aficionados with their passionate melodies. “Tango” has been regarded as a derivative of bistro Argentinian culture for a long time. It was the Piazzolla who blended tango music with classical music, bringing it to the international stage, and allowing audiences around the world to experience the passion of music. The duration of the concert is approximately 1 hour. Tickets are available from 19 February through the Macau Ticketing Network at www.macauticket.com or outlets and are priced at MOP120 and MOP100, with various discount packages available. Ticketing hotline: 2855 5555.
The Macao Orchestra will also present a number of wonderful performances on three consecutive Saturdays in March. The concert “Music in Heritage – Travel with music” will be held on 13 March, at 2:30pm and 5pm, at the Casa Garden, allowing music aficionados to experience music from European countries while enjoying the World Heritage Sites as if they were travelling around the world. The duration of the concert is approximately 30 minutes.
The concert “The Future of Classical Music” will be held on 20 March, at 8pm, at the University Hall of the University of Macau, providing a platform for young music students in Macao to showcase their talents. Led by OM’s Assistant Conductor Francis Kan, the Orchestra will share the stage with several local music lovers and student elites to present a number of familiar and vivid pieces, offering a youthful and energetic concert to music aficionados. The duration of the concert is approximately 1 hour.
