The accordion is closely associated with folk culture. It is one of the most widely used instruments in traditional and popular music all over the world. Perhaps it is this ‘earthiness’ that prevents it from entering the refined world of classical music. However, into the 20th century, attracted by its rich and unique tonality more and more composers used it as an important resource for exploring the ‘vanguard sound’ of modern music. But it was acclaimed Argentine composer Piazzolla who introduced to the world the accordion, along with the much exotic tango culture, with his musical creations appealing to both refined and popular tastes. In this concert, beautiful Latvian accordionist Ksenija Sidorova – hailed by the media as ‘immensely charming’ – will present Piazzolla’s Concerto“Aconcagua”, as well as the no less exotic Carmen and L’Arlesienne by Bizet. Can’t miss this passionate and hot Latin feast!
