Belgian-born conductor David Reiland, current musical director of the Orchestre National de Metz, named “Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres” by the French Minister of Culture in 2021, directs the performance of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Symphony No. 29 in A major. The work, with a simple, light structure marked by a combination of beautiful melody, elegant style, and fresh vitality, was a milestone for his musical maturity, consigning to the past his ‘child prodigy’ aura.
The immortal Requiem in D minor is Mozart’s last work, left unfinished. Mozart received a commission from a mysterious stranger to compose a requiem, which strangely seemed to herald his own demise. The requiem shows Mozart’s fear of death, helplessness, and sadness, oozing a heavy, solemn atmosphere. Incorporating human voices and lyrics, the piece has an extremely powerful appeal.
Approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes, including one interval.
