Different from the grandeur and public nature of symphonies, and without the dazzling display of individual virtuosity typical of a solo recital, chamber music resembles intimate conversing among friends, with each instrument/player being equal and independent, interacting with one another. In its evolution from the classical period to the present day, chamber music has developed into a wide variety of forms and types, with diverse instrumentations. This concert features works by two Czech composers active in the 19th and 20th centuries – a perfect blend of classical music’s romantic tradition and the charm of Czech folk music.
