Zemlinsky: Eine florentinische Tragödie, Op. 16
Famous for his vocal music works, Alexander von Zemlinsky was an important composer that inherited and developed the tradition that inspired those that came after him in the Late Romantic Period. Macao Orchestra will conclude the 2016-17 season with the concert edition of Eine florentinische Tragödie, Zemlinsky’s most notable opera. Based on a never-completed play by Oscar Wilde, the opera, set in Florence in the Renaissance period, recounts a duel between a wealthy merchant and a nobleman over a love affair. The delicate and lively music, coupled with exciting and tense plots of the one-act opera have made it the most frequently performed opera of Zemlinsky.
