Each of Beethoven’s nine symphonies has its own characteristics. Rarely performed, yet described by German composer Robert Schumann as “a slender Greek maiden”, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 4 surely is on a par with the master’s other monumental works, whereas his Symphony No. 2, with an enthusiastic and lively atmosphere, was commented by one of his contemporary critics as “a wounded dragon” avoiding death, but writhing in its throes. Celebrating the 250th anniversary of Beethoven’s birth this year, Macao Orchestra Music Director and Principal Conductor Lu Jia will conduct the orchestra to perform these two wonderful masterpieces, kicking off the new season with Beethoven’s surging creativity.
