David Burns

David Burns was born and raised in Canada. As a boy, he experimented with the trumpet and guitar before discovering drums and percussion, eventually focusing his attention on the timpani. After graduating from The Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, Dave moved to Japan to begin his career.

David Burns has been the principal timpani player of orchestras in Japan and Taiwan, and has been a guest timpani player in orchestras around the world.

David’s principal teachers included Jean-François Breton, David Kent, John Rudolph, Trichy Sankaran, and Luis Orbegoso. He continues to seek knowledge and advice from his favorite players around the world.
