Chiu Hon Kuen
Chiu Hon Kuen Jimmy joined the Macao Orchestra in 2023. He is an active trombonist in both Hong Kong and Macau, having appeared as a guest musician in various professional orchestras, such as the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, Hong Kong Sinfonietta, and Hong Kong Opera Orchestra.
In 2021, Jimmy was selected as a member of the Young Pro Program (YPP) of the Orchestra Academy Hong Kong (TOA), Subsequently, in 2022, he participated in the Fellowship Program of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra for the 2022-23 season, receiving one year of performance training under the tutelage of trombone principal Jarod Vermette.
Starting at the age of 12, Jimmy received trombone and wind ensemble training with Ng Chung Pang at the Hong Kong Symphonic Winds. He later graduated from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, earning a Master of Music degree (2021) and a Bachelor’s degree in Music (2019), majoring in trombone performance under the guidance of Zachary Bond and Maciek Walicki. In addition to orchestral and chamber music performances, Jimmy is also enthusiastic about solo performances. During his studies, he collaborated with the Hong Kong Professional Winds to perform the “Colors” trombone concerto and performed the Tomasi trombone concerto with the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts Symphony Orchestra, receiving widespread acclaim. Every summer, Jimmy participates in different trombone festivals and has attended masterclasses by world-renowned trombonists
such as Jorgen Van Rijen, Jesper Busk Sørensen, Brett Baker, and Fabrice Millischer etc. He has also participated in various music festivals, including the 2015 Slider Asia, 2019 Alessi Seminar, 2020 Singapore Low Brass Institute, and the 2023 Thailand International Trombone Festival.
In addition to his performances, Jimmy is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of trombone players. Since 2014, he has led different youth ensembles as a brass band training instructor on tours to the Netherlands, Vienna, Finland, Russia, Sweden, Kaohsiung, and China.
