Bach: Easter Oratorio, BWV 249
Handel: Excerpts from “Messiah”
Known as the “father of Western music”, Bach dedicated all his talents to religion. For 27 years he worked at the St. Thomas Church in Leipzig, during which time he would write music for important festivals or occasions and “Easter Oratorio” was a masterpiece from such creations. This work brings together the essence of the Baroque musical style, while skillfully integrating instrumental ensemble, solo singing, and chorus, and vividly depicts the feelings and realizations of four biblical characters in the face of Jesus’ death and resurrection. The music, with a sense of remorse as well as voices of gratitude and overjoy, can transcend religion and move people’s hearts.
Macao Orchestra, in collaboration with The Learners Chorus, will present this monumental masterpiece under the baton of its Music Director, Apollo Wong.
Come and experience with us the beauty of Bach’s “Oratorio”.
