The Macao Orchestra (OM, from the Portuguese acronym), under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, presents the concert “Starry Vienna – New Year Concert” on Monday, 31 December, at 8pm, at the Macao Cultural Centre Grand Auditorium. Under the baton of renowned conductor Arvo Volmer, the Macao Orchestra joins hands with Chinese soprano Hui He to present a splendid musical feast to music aficionados. The concert is directed by the famous conductor Arvo Volmer, who has performed with the Macao Orchestra several times. His charisma is deeply admired by local music aficionados. The concert also features remarkable Chinese soprano Hui He, who won numerous international opera awards including the “Oscar of the Lirica Award”, the “Illica Award”, the “Juliette Award”, the “Kaleidos Award”, the “Marcella Pobbe Award” and the “Verona Lirica Award”, among others. In 2015, she received the “Best Chinese affect the world” award by Phoenix Satellite TV.
The concert features a selection of Austro-German opera songs overflowing with festive fervour, classic Italian opera arias and Chinese traditional music, including Der Rosenkavalier Suite by Richard Strauss, Overture to Light Cavalry by Suppé, Un bel di vedremo (On a good day) from Madama Butterfly by Puccini, Pamir, and How Beautiful My Home Town by Zheng Qiufeng. With an array of extraordinary musical pieces, the Macao Orchestra celebrates the New Year with music aficionados under the ambience of jubilant melodies.
